Young woman dies after shooting at Stockholm sports centre

Stockholm, Oct 18. (dpa/GNA) – A young woman has died of her injuries, after a shooting at a sports centre in Stockholm, the Swedish news agency TT reported on Sunday, citing police.

The woman, who was about 25 years old, was shot at the sports facility on Friday evening and taken to hospital with serious injuries, TT reported.

On Saturday evening, police said she had died. Several events were being held at the centre at the time of the attack. The investigation is now being treated as murder. Two teenagers were arrested on Saturday. The circumstances and details of the crime are currently unclear.

The woman is said to have been employed in youth work. No personal connection between the two young men and the victim has so far been apparent, prosecutor Lukas Tigerstrand told the public broadcaster SVT.

According to TT, a floorball match and a football match were taking place at the sports facility at the time of the attack. However, the attack did not take place in the halls where the games were being played.

Numerous children and teenagers were on site. Psychological crisis support has been set up for them, the agency reported.
