Tamale, April 01, GNA – The Tamale Community Cooperative Credit Union has donated 500 mathematical sets to the Northern Business Senior High School (NOBISCO) in Tamale to support the students following fire outbreak that destroyed parts of the school’s girls’ dormitory.
The fire that occurred on January 28, this year following an explosion in the electrical poles, hit the top floor of the girls’ dormitory, affecting about 900 students occupying that particular building and destroying books, mattresses, learning materials and other personal belongings including tablets provided to the students.
The gesture by the Tamale Community Cooperative Credit Union therefore sought to support the students in preparing for their examinations, which would begin from April 07, as well as strengthen the school’s teaching and learning resources.
Mr Emmanuel Akaare, Manager of Tamale Community Cooperative Credit Union, who presented the items to the authorities of the school in Tamale, said it was to show sympathy and support for the students.
He explained that the mathematical sets were chosen for their practical and symbolic value as each item in the set performed a different role in learning, and together they helped students achieve success.
Mr Akaare commended the headmaster, assistant headmasters, and teachers of the school for training students to make meaningful contributions in society.
Mr Yakubu Musah, Assistant Headmaster in-charge of Administration, NOBISCO, on behalf of the school’s Board and Management, expressed appreciation to the Tamale Community Cooperative Credit Union for the gesture and said it was the first support from a financial institution since the fire incident.
He said the mathematical sets would serve as teaching and learning aids, especially as students were preparing for their examinations.
He said rehabilitation works on the affected building were almost complete, adding that additional support had been provided to accommodate the students.
He appealed to other institutions and philanthropic organisations to support the school with essential items to help the affected students.
