Accra, April 1, GNA – The Methodist Church has commissioned an ultra-modern secretariat for the Mfantsipim Old Boys Association (MOBA) in Accra to enhance its operations.
The secretariat is expected to provide essential support to the National Executive Council and the MOBA Council to handle logistics for projects, organise meetings, and maintain records.
The Most Reverend Professor Johnson K. Asamoah-Gyadu, Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church of Ghana, together with the Baiden Foundation and old students of Mfantsipim, commissioned the facility.
The Presiding Bishop unveiled a plaque and prayed for the facility, which includes a boardroom, reception area, lounge, cafeteria, and an office for the Executive Secretary.
Mr Moses Kwesi Baiden Jnr, President (Ebusuapanyin) of MOBA, said in an interview that the project was funded by the Baiden Foundation, with support from friends, to give a facelift to the association’s secretariat.
He explained that the Baiden Foundation comprised six siblings from the Baiden family who were alumni of Mfantsipim Senior High School.
“During my campaign to become Ebusuapanyin of MOBA, I promised to build a brand-new office fitted with modern digital technology to help us pursue the vision of the association,” Mr Baiden Jnr said.
“MOBA is a company limited by guarantee, a non-profit organisation, and operates as a corporate entity. Under our new constitution, we also have an Executive Secretary who implements the strategic business plan of MOBA.”
He noted that the Foundation’s gesture was in appreciation of the significant impact the school had made on their lives.
Mr Baiden Jnr said since its establishment in 1947, the school had produced exceptional leaders who had contributed to sustainable development locally and globally.
“We need to return to the core objective of producing the best leadership, not only in academic excellence but also in character, values, and purpose,” he said.
“We are committed to restoring aspirations that reflect MOBA’s vision to impact society positively- socially, economically, and politically.”
Mr Baiden expressed concern over the pursuit of wealth and power without a sense of purpose.
“This development reminds us that wealth, capacity, status, and power must serve a purpose. We want to reinforce that principle,” he added.
“To achieve this, MOBA has established a full-time team, moving away from a purely voluntary structure.”
