Accra, Aug. 21, GNA – The community of organised labour has expressed shock at the death of Dr Isaac Bampoe Addo, Executive Secretary of the Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG).
Dr Bampoe Addo was pronounced dead at about 1000 hours on Friday after a “short illness,” Mr Edmund Acquaye, Public Relations Officer of CLOGSAG, confirmed to the Ghana News Agency (GNA).
“This is a big loss to the nation when it comes to labour relations. He was a pragmatic man,” he said.
Dr Bampoe Addo’s death has triggered an outpouring of tributes and expressions of disbelief among members of organised labour, with many describing him as an exceptional leader and a strong voice for public sector workers.
The GNA’s monitoring of labour platforms following the announcement of his death showed members paying tribute to his leadership and expressing shock at the sudden development.
Some members recalled a meeting in Accra last Friday, where Dr Bampoe Addo actively participated in discussions as the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) engaged Organised Labour for inputs into the draft Independent Public Emoluments Commission Bill.
His active participation in the meeting, just days before his death, was cited as a reflection of his commitment to labour and public sector issues.
Dr Bampoe Addo was also Chairman of the Forum for Public Sector Associations and Unions, a federation representing several public sector professional associations and unions.
He served as Executive Secretary of CLOGSAG for several years and was a prominent figure in negotiations and engagements on salaries, pensions, conditions of service and other matters affecting public sector workers.
In that capacity, he led the Association in many industrial and policy engagements with the Government and other stakeholders, including negotiations on pensions and remuneration.
Dr Bampoe Addo also served on the Civil Service Council as the CLOGSAG representative, reflecting his involvement in broader public service policy and administration.
