Royal state visit to US under scrutiny after Washington shooting

London, April 26, (dpa/GNA) – Plans for the British royal couple’s state visit to the United States are under review, in the wake of a shooting at a press dinner attended by US officials in Washington, Buckingham Palace said on Sunday, according to the British news agency PA.

“A number of discussions will be taking place throughout the day to discuss with US colleagues and our respective teams, to what degree the events of Saturday evening may or may not impact on the operational planning for the visit,” a palace spokesman was quoted as saying.

The king was being kept fully informed about developments and was “greatly relieved to hear that the President, First Lady and all guests have been unharmed.”

The royal couple are due to travel to Washington on Monday for a multi-day state visit. In addition to meetings with US President Donald Trump, a state banquet and an address to Congress, appointments in New York are also planned.
