Dormaa-Ahenkro (Bono), April 23, GNA-Mr Joseph Addae Akwaboa, the Bono Regional Minister, has described the government’s “Big Push” programme as a major investment drive to address the critical infrastructure deficits, nationwide.
He said within a year and some months in office, the region had benefited from a few road construction projects under the programme.
Mr Akwaboa was speaking at the “Accounting to the People Series” at Dormaa Ahenkro, as part of his visit to the Dormaa Central Municipality of the region.
He cited the on-going construction of the 34-kilometer Sunyani Outer Ring Road as well as 80-kilometer Jinijini-Sampa Road projects that were all funded by the ‘Big Push’ programme.
Other projects he mentioned comprised the on-going construction of the Wenchi-Nsawkaw-Sampa Road, Berekum Inner Roads as well as the Berekum-Seikwa Road projects and the Dormaa-Nkrankwanta Road projects.
Mr Akwaboa said the government had also partnered the Newmont Ghana Gold Limited for the construction of the Sunyani-Atronie Road project, and those projects aligned with a broader effort to improve transportation to spur the region’s economic growth and development.
“The scale of projects initiated by the government within a short period is unprecedented”, he stated, saying that the government remained dedicated to improving the wellbeing of the people through infrastructure development and sound economic interventions.
Mr Akwaboa urged Assembly Members to collaborate with their respective assemblies to ensure that the critical development needs of the local communities were identified and addressed.
He said the accountability series underscored the government’s commitment to promoting transparency and participatory governance and responsive leadership to deepen the decentralization concept.
Barima Twumasi Bekoe II, the Chief of Kofiasua and the Twafohene (sub-chief) of the Dormaa Traditional Area described the engagement as impactful and commended the government for the nation’s infrastructure development.
He expressed confidence in the government in bringing the development of the country to the next level and urged the government to remain focused in the fight against corruption through the Operation Recover All loot (ORAL) initiative and promoting accountability in the management of public funds.
