Kpetoe (V/R), July 6, GNA – World Vision Ghana has donated relief items to about 700 flood victims in the Agotime-Ziope District to support ongoing humanitarian interventions and provide immediate assistance to families displaced by recent floods.
The donation, through the organisation’s Agotime-Ziope Area programme, was made to the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) through the Agotime-Ziope District Assembly and the Member of Parliament for the constituency for distribution to affected households.
The relief package comprised clothing for adults and children, toothpaste, toothbrushes and petroleum jelly to help address the immediate clothing and personal hygiene needs of victims, especially children and other vulnerable persons whose homes and livelihoods were destroyed by the floods.
Presenting the items, Mr Irvine Aboagye, the Regional Operations Manager of World Vision Ghana, said the gesture reflected the organisation’s commitment to supporting vulnerable communities during emergencies and strengthening their resilience against disasters.
He said natural disasters often placed enormous pressure on already vulnerable households and reaffirmed World Vision Ghana’s commitment to working closely with government agencies, local authorities and humanitarian organisations to ensure timely assistance reached affected communities.
Mr Eric Opoku Agyarko, the Programmes Manager for the Agotime Cluster, said the organisation would continue to support disaster preparedness and emergency response initiatives aimed at protecting the lives, dignity and well-being of children and their families.
“Effective collaboration among development partners, local authorities and communities is essential for delivering coordinated humanitarian assistance and strengthening community resilience against future disasters,” he said.
Receiving the items on behalf of the district, Mr Charles Agbeve, the Member of Parliament for Agotime-Ziope, thanked World Vision Ghana for what he described as a timely intervention, assuring the organisation that the relief supplies would be distributed fairly to affected households.
He said the floods displaced hundreds of residents across several communities, destroyed homes, personal property and sources of livelihood and appealed to other humanitarian organisations and development partners to support ongoing relief and recovery efforts in the district.
