Kumasi, April 25, GNA – The Manhyia Palace came alive with a blend of global diplomacy and rich tradition as the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, was honoured with the distinguished title of “Pillar of Peace” on Friday night.
Conferred in recognition of his enduring role in promoting national stability and conflict resolution, the honour formed the highlight of a high-level Executive Gala Dinner marking the 27th anniversary of his ascension to the Golden Stool.
Organised by the Diaspora Affairs Office of the Office of the President in partnership with the E ON 3 Group, and sponsored by the KGL Group, the event was held under the theme: “Advancing Peace and Sustainable Economic Development Through Royal Vision.”
Asantehene’s legacy as a peacemaker was a central focus of the evening.
His leadership of the Committee of Eminent Chiefs proved pivotal in resolving the protracted Dagbon chieftaincy conflict, culminating in the enskinment of a new Ya-Na after years of tension between the Abudu and Andani royal gates.
His quiet but influential role in Ghana’s democratic journey was also acknowledged, with the Bank of Ghana commending him as a stabilising force who has helped facilitate peaceful political transitions under the Fourth Republic.
His mediation efforts in the Bawku chieftaincy dispute and peace-building engagements have earned international acclaim.
The Commonwealth of Nations has recognised his initiatives as exemplary models for governance and adherence to the rule of law.
In honour of his enduring legacy, commemorative initiatives have been introduced, including the launch of a 24-carat gold coin in December 2025 to celebrate his role as a peace icon.
More recently, a pioneering digital gold coin box, equipped with interactive touchscreens showcasing documentaries of his peace missions, was unveiled in April 2026.
The ceremony drew an eminent gathering of political leaders, traditional authorities, diplomats, religious figures, and business executives, all united in celebrating a monarch whose influence continues to shape peace and governance not only in Ghana but across the African continent.
