Easter calls for renewed global peace and hope – Rev Wengam

Accra, April 1, GNA – Reverend Stephen Yenusom Wengam, the General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God, Ghana, has called on world leaders and Christian believers to recommit themselves to peace-building, saying the message of Easter offers humanity enduring hope in an increasingly troubled world.

In his 2026 Easter Message, Rev Wengam said the resurrection of Jesus Christ remained the most powerful and hopeful moment in human history and a firm assurance that darkness, conflict and despair would not have the final word.

“The resurrection reminds us that although death, conflict and suffering are real, they are not final,” he said, quoting Luke 24:6: “He is not here; He has risen.”

According to him, the redemptive work of Christ demonstrated that life triumphed over death, forgiveness over sin, joy over sorrow, and light over darkness—values that should guide global efforts towards peace.

Rev Wengam expressed deep concern about the growing flames of conflict across the world, observing that war-mongering appeared to be on the rise while peace-building continued to decline.
He said the spread of violence, mistrust and instability threatened the collective future of humanity, but stressed that the Easter message provided a pathway for reconciliation, healing and lasting peace.
“Though darkness seems to have eclipsed much of our world, it is not a hopeless situation. The faithful Lord will not leave us nor forsake us,” he stated.
The General Superintendent urged nations, faith leaders and citizens to act “quickly and wisely” to reverse the dangerous trajectory of global conflict and to work deliberately towards enduring peace, unfading hope and global stability.
“We must be agents of peace. We must preach peace, facilitate peace and pray for enduring peace,” Rev Wengam emphasized.
Turning to Ghana, he called on citizens and leaders to prioritize unity as a foundation for peace and development, urging them to focus on issues that bound the nation together rather than those that divided it.
According to him, visible unity among leaders and followers would strengthen social cohesion and positively influence global perceptions of Ghana as a peaceful nation.
Rev Wengam said Assemblies of God, Ghana’s 2026 theme, “The Faith of Our Fathers,” encouraged believers to draw inspiration from the unwavering faith of earlier generations whose spiritual convictions enabled them to overcome persecution, adversity and hardship.
He cautioned that such faith must be grounded in sound and unadulterated doctrine, warning against teachings that elevated material prosperity above character, integrity and holy living.
He noted that authentic faith nurtured peace—both within individuals and across societies—and positioned believers as instruments of reconciliation wherever they found themselves.
Rev Wengam announced that Assemblies of God, Ghana, had been selected to host the 2026 World Congress of the Assemblies of God Fellowship, marking the first time the event would be held in Africa.
The congress, scheduled for October 14 to 16, will feature daytime sessions at the Black Star Square and evening rallies at the Accra Sports Stadium.
He said the event would be a global platform to advance prayer, unity and peace among nations, and called on Assemblies of God members nationwide—from Yendi to Aflao, Wa to Ho, Sekondi to Techiman—to actively participate.
An open invitation was extended to Ghanaians and the international community, while fervent prayers and support were sought to ensure the congress made a lasting contribution to global peace efforts.
Rev Wengam concluded with prayers that the power of Christ’s resurrection would renew spiritual, personal, family, professional and national lives, and strengthen humanity’s resolve for peace.
He conveyed Easter goodwill to President John Mahama and his family, former Presidents, political leaders, business executives, traditional rulers and all people of goodwill.
Rev Stephen Y. Wengam is also the Vice Chairman of the Africa Assemblies of God Alliance.
