Tarkwa (W/R), April 06, GNA – Dr Nana Adarkwa Bediako III, the Gyaasehene of Apinto Divisional Council in the Western Region has donated food items worth GH¢50,000.00 to support the upkeep of inmates at the Tarkwa Local Prisons.
The items include, 100 crates of eggs, 20 bags of gari, and 10 bags of beans.
The donation, which was not the first of its kind from the Gyaasehene was to support the “Think Prisons 360 Degree” initiative introduced by Mrs. Patience Baffoe-Bonnie, the Director General of Ghana Prisons Service.
Presenting the items, Nana Adarkwa Bediako III, who doubles as the Chief Executive Officer of Tarkwa FM, a local based radio station, said the donation was aimed at supporting inmates in their reformation process.
He stated that future assistance from him would not be limited to food, but he would include learning materials and other essential to address the needs of the prison.
Nana Kwabena Nketsia IV, the Abakomahene of Apinto Divisional commended the Gyaasehene, and appealed to other chiefs within the Apinto Stool Lands to assist the inmates in any way they could.
Chief Superintendent of Prisons Bright Gbogbo, the Acting Commander of the Tarkwa Local Prisons, who received the items on behalf of the inmates, thanked the Gyaasehene for the generosity, and assured him they would be used for the intended purpose.
He added that proper feeding helped the inmates reform and become responsible and productive to the society after serving their sentence.
The “Think Prisons 360 Degree” launched in September 2025 is a comprehensive reset agenda aimed at transforming the Ghana Prisons Service through modernisation, improved inmates’ rehabilitation, and enhanced staff welfare.
