Accra, Oct. 16, GNA – President John Dramani Mahama has directed Ghana’s newly appointed Ambassador to Israel, Mrs Evelyn Korantemaa Ofosu-Amable, to uphold Ghana’s longstanding commitment to a two-state solution to the Palestine-Israel conflict.
The President gave the directive on Friday when he commissioned Mrs Ofosu-Amable and three other newly appointed envoys at the Presidency in Accra.
The other appointees are Mr Jedidiah Reuben Adogla, Ghana’s Permanent Representative to Geneva, Switzerland; Nana Antwiwaa Dodoo, Ambassador to Angola; and Mr Louis Kwame Obeng, Ambassador to Qatar.
President Mahama said in the discharge of her duties, Mrs Ofosu-Amable must remain guided by Ghana’s established foreign policy position on the Palestinian question.
“We recognise the sovereign State of Palestine and support a viable two-state solution in which Israel and Palestine will live side by side in peace and security within internationally recognised and secure borders,” the President said.
“Our engagement must consistently uphold international law, the protection of civilians, and the dignity of all people.”
The President emphasised that the credibility of the international system depended on the consistent application of these principles.
President Mahama noted that Ghana’s cooperation with Israel in agriculture, technology, healthcare, water management and education continued to present significant opportunities for national development.
He, therefore, urged the Ambassador to identify and promote partnerships that would strengthen Ghanaian expertise and address clearly defined national development needs.
The President said an immediate priority for the Mission would be advancing discussions on the proposed labour-mobility agreement between Ghana and Israel.
He emphasised that any arrangement involving the deployment of qualified Ghanaian health professionals must adequately protect their rights and welfare while taking into account Ghana’s own healthcare workforce requirements.
President Mahama also directed Mrs Ofosu-Amable to maintain regular contact with Ghanaian agricultural interns participating in the MASHAV programme in Israel.
He said their safety, welfare, and training conditions required continuous monitoring and active oversight.
The President tasked the Ambassador to identify potential concerns at an early stage and take prompt action to address them, drawing lessons from previous experiences involving Ghanaian trainees abroad.
