Accra, Oct. 16, GNA – President John Dramani Mahama has charged Ghana’s newly appointed Ambassador to Angola, Nana Antwiwaa Dodoo, to work closely with Angola to sustain international attention on the issue of reparatory justice.
He said the United Nations General Assembly’s recognition of the trafficking of enslaved Africans and racialised chattel enslavement as a grievous crime against humanity must be followed by meaningful engagement on the consequences of that history and the pursuit of justice.
President Mahama gave the charge on Friday when he formally commissioned Nana Antwiwaa Dodoo and three other newly appointed envoys at the Presidency in Accra.
The other envoys are Mr Louis Kwame Obeng, Ambassador to Qatar; Mrs Evelyn Korantemaa Ofosu-Amable, Ambassador to Israel; and Mr Jedidiah Reuben Adogla, Ghana’s Permanent Representative to Geneva, Switzerland.
The President noted that Ghana and Angola shared long-standing bonds of friendship and solidarity and urged the Ambassador to deepen bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
“I expect you to build on those ties by expanding trade, encouraging investment, and bringing our private sectors into close partnership,” he stated.
President Mahama tasked Nana Dodoo to work towards convening the Seventh Session of the Ghana-Angola Joint Commission for Cooperation in 2027.
He said the agenda of the meeting should focus on practical opportunities for collaboration and ensure that agreed commitments receive sustained follow-up and implementation.
The President noted that cooperation with Angola would be particularly important as Ghana prepares to assume the Chairmanship of the African Union in 2027.
“We must deepen our consultations on shared African priorities and strengthen our ability to advance common positions,” the President said.
President Mahama stressed the importance of enhanced diplomatic engagement between the two countries in promoting Africa’s development agenda and strengthening cooperation on issues of mutual interest.
