CAGD pays promotion arrears to 56,003 teachers ahead of deadline

Accra, Oct. 16, GNA – The Controller and Accountant-General’s Department (CAGD) has paid promotion-related salary adjustments and arrears to 56,003 Ghana Education Service (GES) teachers, meeting the October 16 deadline agreed with teacher unions.

In a statement issued in Accra, CAGD said 6,278 teachers received their payments in September 2026, while the remaining 49,725 were paid on Thursday, October 15, alongside their October salaries.

The payments covered salary adjustments and arrears effective January 1, 2026, bringing the total number of teachers paid to 56,003 ahead of the agreed deadline.

The deadline was set at a meeting between government representatives and teacher unions at the Ministry of Education on October 2, 2026.

CAGD said the GES had processed and submitted supporting documents for 56,633 of the approximately 80,000 teachers reported to have been promoted.

Of the 56,633 cases submitted, the Department verified and paid 56,003, while 630 remained pending because of issues identified during verification.

It said those outstanding cases would be processed after the GES resolved the identified issues.

The remaining 23,367 teachers are yet to be processed, with the GES expected to submit the relevant supporting documents.

CAGD said it had completed payments for all teachers whose submitted records met payroll requirements.

It said it remained committed to processing outstanding eligible payments promptly once the necessary corrections were made or complete and accurate documents received and verified.

The Department thanked the GES, teacher unions, and the ministries and agencies involved for their cooperation.
