Hohoe (V/R), March 8, GNA – The Hohoe Unique Lions Club, a member of Lions Club International, a Humanitarian Service Organisation, has held a free health screening and renewal of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) Card renewal for residents of Hohoe.

The Club, in partnership with the Volta Regional Hospital, Hohoe is also holding a blood donation exercise to stock up the Hospital’s blood bank.

Miss Bridget Setornyo Letsa, President, Hohoe Unique Lions Club told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that as a service and humanitarian Club, they deemed it necessary to give back as well as impact positively in the communities they found themselves.

Miss Letsa the Club came up with service activities or projects almost every month to find out if there were challenges in the community which could be resolved within their means.

She said as a service Club they based their operations on thematic areas including vision, diabetes, childhood cancer, humanitarian, disaster, and the environment and have service projects around them.

Miss Letsa said the Club embarked on free health screening in diabetes helping community members know their blood pressure, weight, and Body Mass Index (BMI).

She said they were also doing breast and cervical cancer, hepatitis B screening, fasting and random blood sugar, eye, and dental screening.

Miss Letsa said anybody found having a problem as a result of the screening would be taken care of.

She expressed gratitude to the Volta Regional Hospital for the partnership and providing health staff to help with the exercise.

Miss Letsa said the renewal of the NHIS cards would enable the beneficiaries to access healthcare which they could not due to the expiration of their cards.

She said the Club believed that exercise being held would provide an in-depth knowledge for the residents about the importance of health screening or checking themselves.

Some beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the Club for the gesture.
