Ho (V/R), March 10, GNA – Members of the Global Evangelical Church, Zion Temple at Kabakaba Hill, have celebrated a Traditional and Royal Day, to promote Ghana’s cultural identity.

The celebration, held on Sunday, March 8, 2026, at the church premises, formed part of activities to mark Heritage Sunday and Ghana Month.

The programme brought together congregants dressed in colourful traditional attire representing various ethnic groups across the country.

The event organised on the theme, “Our Culture, Our Identity: Be Proud You Belong,” was inspired by the biblical text I Peter 2:9, which emphasises believers as a chosen people and a royal priesthood.

Reverend Wisdom Emmanuel Ashiaby, in a sermon, urged members to value their cultural roots while living as “royal people in Christ,” stressing that Christian identity should not disconnect believers from their traditional heritage.

He explained that the celebration was aimed at linking the Christian faith with Ghana’s cultural heritage, particularly during the national observance of the Ghana Month.

Rev. Ashiaby also called on parents to pay closer attention to the cultural upbringing of their children and reduce excessive adoption of foreign lifestyles, which he described as “Europeanism.”

Togbe Misrowoda Macliberty, th Spokesperson of the Church’s organising committee, told the Ghana News Agency, that the symbolic display of traditional costumes was meant to teach the younger generation about the rich cultural heritage of their communities.

He expressed disappointment that none of the congregants appeared in an ‘Asafo’ warrior regalia or depicted the role of farmers, saying such representations would have highlighted an important aspects of Ghanaian cultural life.

The church also encouraged singing groups and ministries to perform only songs with traditional rhythm and style, while the sermon illustrated cultural practices commonly observed during community gatherings.

A fundraising exercise was also held to support apprenticeship training for members; a project the church hopes to make an annual initiative.
