Accra, March 01, GNA – President John Dramani Mahama on Sunday departed Accra for Arusha, Tanzania, where he will be the special guest of honour at a solemn ceremony to open the 2026 judicial year of the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights on Monday.
A statement issued by Mr Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Presidential Spokesman and Minister of State in-charge of Government Communications said the ceremony would also be used to launch the 20th anniversary of the court.
It said this would be the first invitation for a sitting President of Ghana to address the AU Court.
It noted that the theme for the opening of the judicial year is ‘20 Years of Service in Protecting Human and Peoples’ Rights in Africa’.
The statement said while in Arusha, President Mahama would hold talks with his Tanzanian counterpart President Samia Suluhu Hassan.
It said President Mahama would leave Arusha after the opening programme on Monday, adding that while away, the Vice President would act as President in accordance with Article 60(8) of the Constitution.
