NPP elder urges youth to participate in on-going membership registration exercise

Odomase, (Bono), March 27, GNA-Mr Yaw Dabie Appiah Mensah, a member of the Bono Regional Council of Elders of the New Patriotic Party has urged the youth to participate in the party’s on-going nationwide membership registration exercise.

He said the youth ought to register to strengthen the NPP’s database and deepen transparency in the party membership administration.

The largest opposition NPP launched the nationwide membership registration drive between March 1 to March 31, 2026, as part of efforts to strengthen the party’s grassroots structures and prepare for future electoral activities.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview at Odomase, the capital of the Sunyani West constituency, Mr Mensah said that the NPP remained sensitive to addressing the plight of the youth.

He said it was the party that could build a better future for the youth, urging them to think about their future by ensuring that they participated in the registration exercise to become recognized members of the party.

Mr Mensah expressed worry that the commitment of the youth to the activities of the NPP had declined, citing that: “In our youthful days money isn’t our motivation but party loyalty”.

That notwithstanding, he urged the leadership of the NPP to sit up, identify and tackle the challenges that were making the party unattractive to the youth.

“It’s even difficult to mobilize the youth of our party to undertake the house-to-house campaigns we used to do in those days”, Mr Mensah worried.

He stressed the need for the party to undertake a sensitization exercise to market and re-sell the ideologies and philosophies of the NPP to the youth, saying that doing so would empower them to appreciate the sacrifices of the party.

Mr Mensah noted that the present economic condition of the country was not the best for the ordinary farmer at Odomase saying that: “In fact our maize and cocoa farmers are crying”.

He said the Sunyani West constituency was noted for maize production and cited that the market price of a bag of maize which used to sell around GHC1,000 in the previous administration was now going for GHC400.

Mr Mensah said the former Vice President Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s government would be able to turn round the economic fortunes of the nation, and called on the youth, 18 years and above, to participate in the party registration exercise and obtain membership.

He said being a member, the NPP would be able to identify and empower them enough to undertake political party activities and woo more voters for the party to regain political power in the Election 2028. GNA
