Vakpo (V/R), March 4, GNA – Mr James Gunu, the Volta Regional Minister, has assured the Vakpo Traditional Council of the government’s commitment to addressing key development challenges in the North Dayi District.

The assurance was given during a courtesy call on the Council, as part of the Minister’s ongoing engagements with traditional authorities aimed at strengthening collaboration and accelerating development across the Volta Region.

Mr Gunu was accompanied by Mr Ernest Adeavor, the North Dayi District Chief Executive, some heads of the security services and officials of the District Assembly.

The delegation was welcomed by Togbe Gbogbolulu V, the Paramount Chief of the Vakpo Traditional Area, who expressed appreciation for the visit and described it as a demonstration of respect and partnership with the traditional authority and the people of Vakpo.

The Paramount Chief used the opportunity to outline pressing developmental needs of the area, highlighting the rehabilitation of the abandoned Pack House facility as a priority.

He noted that the facility, which had been non-operational for years, holds significant potential to provide training for farmers, promote value addition to agricultural produce, stimulate local enterprise and boost the district’s economic output.

Togbe Gbogbolulu also appealed for the construction of a new government hospital to improve healthcare delivery and called for the establishment of a High Court to enhance access to justice for residents.

Other concerns raised included youth indiscipline, inadequate security presence, challenges with potable water supply and shortage of furniture in some schools.

Responding, Mr Gunu described the rehabilitation of the Pack House as a strategic intervention that could transform the local economy, create jobs, and improve livelihoods.

He reaffirmed the commitment of the Volta Regional Coordinating Council, to collaborate closely with the Traditional Council, the District Assembly, and relevant agencies to address the concerns in a coordinated and sustainable manner.

As a gesture of support, the Minister presented a cash donation of GHS 10,000 and assorted items, including bottled water, to the Traditional Council to support its activities.

The visit forms part of broader regional engagements aimed at deepening partnerships with traditional leaders to promote peace, unity, and socio-economic development in the Volta Region.
