Man runs amok in Austria, killing one and injuring another

Vienna, March 15, (dpa/GNA) – A 26-year-old Afghan male was killed and another 24-year-old male, also an Afghan, seriously injured, in a knife attack on the street in Linz, northern Austria, police reported on Sunday.

Police said a 34-year-old male suspect was quickly arrested, following the incident.

A spokesman said the suspect’s wife had previously alerted authorities to his intentions, and police were already searching for him when the attack occurred Saturday evening.

The motive remains unclear but is not considered political, police said.

The incident reportedly began after an argument in which the suspect became aggressive toward a car driver. The Afghan victims intervened.

The suspect had then followed the Afghans as they left a hairdressing salon. The police report said he stabbed the 24-year-old in the neck from behind. The 26-year-old attempted to flee but fell.

The suspect then kicked him while he was on the ground and stabbed him in his upper body. The 26-year-old died later in hospital. The suspect was arrested soon afterward.
