Ho (V/R), March 16, GNA – Students of Sonrise Christian High School in Ho have received career guidance and higher education information at an education fair organised to help them make informed future decisions.

The event, dubbed “Sonrise PTA Careers and Higher Education Fair – Shaping Futures: One Decision at a Time,” brought together universities, professionals and parents to guide students on academic and career pathways.

It was organised by the school’s Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) with participation from several tertiary institutions including Mawuli School, Ola Senior High, Ashesi University, Academic City University, Ho Technical University, and the University of Health and Allied Sciences among others.

Mr Joseph Dzamesi, the Administrator of Sonrise Christian High School, described the fair as the first of its kind organised by the school.

He said the initiative aimed at providing students with valuable information to help them make sound career and academic choices after completing senior high school.

“Several young people go through school confused about the career path they should take,” Mr Dzamesi said.

He noted that some students pursued programmes because of parental pressure, which sometimes prevented them from expressing their full academic potential.

Mr Dzamesi said the fair therefore served as a platform to expose students to various opportunities and guide them in making informed decisions about their future.

Mr Chris Worla Essikpe, the PTA Chairman, explained that the transition from senior high school to tertiary education or the world of work, was a critical stage in the lives of young people.

He said several students in Ghana made life-changing decisions with little guidance and limited knowledge of the opportunities available beyond school.

“This fair is designed to expose our students to different career pathways, universities and vocational opportunities so they can plan and prepare for their future,” he stated.

Mr Gordon Akpadie, a Solicitor at the Superior Court of Judicature and Lecturer at the Accra Technical University, urged students not to rush into career choices without understanding their passions and abilities.

He advised them to embrace lifelong learning, develop technical and interpersonal skills and seek mentorship to navigate the competitive global job market.

Representatives of participating universities later took turns to present their programmes and admission requirements to the students, while parents and learners expressed appreciation to the organisers for the initiative, describing it as timely and beneficial for career development.
