Ho, Aug.13, GNA – A comparative analysis of road traffic statistics in the Volta Region from April to June 2026 indicates a positive reduction in accident occurrences and pedestrian casualties, compared to the same period in 2025.
However, there was a rise in injuries and fatalities within the same period under review.
Total road crashes declined by 7.0 per cent, dropping from 129 in 2025 to 120 in 2026.
The number of vehicles involved in the crashes also saw a marginal decrease of 1.3 per cent from 223 in 2025 to 220.
Pedestrian knockdowns also fell sharply by 62.8 per cent, decreasing from 43 in 2025 to 16 cases.
Conversely, road-related deaths rose by 9.1 per cent from 33 to 36 cases within the period.
Persons injured also increased by 3.8 per cent from 131 to 136 cases.
Madam Joana Fafa Ayer, Volta Regional Director of the National Road Safety Authority, called for stricter adherence to road safety protocols.
Disclosing the data to the Ghana News Agency, she said her outfit would continue to intensify campaigns to ensure safety on the roads.
