Accra, Aug. 13, GNA – The Union Social Club will on Friday, August 14, hold a public lecture on the theme: “Brotherhood and Nationhood: Social Clubs in Ghana’s Development” as part of activities marking its 25th Anniversary.
The lecture brings together members, dignitaries, and the wider public to reflect on the role social clubs have played, and continue to play, in shaping Ghana’s civic and national life.
A statement issued by the Union on Thursday, a copy made available to the Ghana News Agency in Accra, said the programme would be chaired by Emeritus Professor Ivan Addae-Mensah, former Vice Chancellor, University of Ghana.
The keynote address would be delivered by Lawyer Ace Anan Ankomah, Senior Partner at Bentsi-Enchill, Letsa & Ankomah (BELA) and a member of the Union, the statement noted.
The lecture, it said, was themed around the broader question of how voluntary associations and social clubs could contribute meaningfully to national development under the Union’s guiding philosophy of friendship and impact.
Ahead of the event, the President of the Union, Dr Isaac Adupong, was quoted as saying: “Twenty-five years ago, a small circle of friendship was formed on the belief that brotherhood could outlast any season.”
“Today, that same brotherhood stands as a reminder of what is possible when men commit not only to each other, but to the nation we all serve.”
“This lecture is our way of honouring that journey, and of reminding ourselves that the true measure of any fellowship is not how long it lasts, but how much impact it leaves behind.”
