Kadjebi (O/R), March 03, GNA – The Kadjebi District Command of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has intensified its fire safety education campaign in basic schools within the district.

This is to equip learners with knowledge on prevention and the dangers associated with fire outbreaks.

The initiative, which forms part of the Service’s preventive strategy, is aimed at reducing the incidence of domestic and bush fires through early education and awareness of creation among school children.

Speaking during an educational session at the Kadjebi Girls’ Model JHS, Divisional Officer Grade Three (DO III) Anthony Dormah, the Kadjebi District Fire Commander, advised learners to be cautious when handling naked flames and other flammable materials.

He cautioned them against playing with matches, lighters, candles, and electrical appliances, stressing that negligence could result in devastating consequences, including loss of lives and property.

DO III Dormah explained that many fire outbreaks in homes and communities were preventable and often caused by human error, such as unattended cooking, improper electrical connections, and indiscriminate burning of refuse.

He urged the learners to serve as fire safety ambassadors in their homes by educating their parents and siblings on basic fire prevention measures.

The District Fire Commander also took the pupils through practical demonstrations on how to respond in the event of a fire outbreak, including raising alarm, contacting the Fire Service promptly, and avoiding panic.

He reiterated the GNFS emergency number and encouraged the public to report fire incidents early to enable swift response and minimise damage.

Some of the learners who interacted with them expressed appreciation for education and pledged to adhere to the safety tips provided.

The Kadjebi District Command of the GNFS is expected to extend the campaign to other schools and communities in the district as part of efforts to promote fire safety awareness and protect lives and property.
