Akatsi (VR), March 3, GNA – Mr Bernard Ahiafor, Member of Parliament for Akatsi South and First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, has joined officials of the government’s flagship National Apprenticeship Programme (NAP) to distribute equipment to 605 artisans in the constituency.

The presentation took place at the Akatsi No. 1 JHS premises, where beneficiaries gathered to receive tools including industrial sewing machines, hair dryers, and other equipment essential for their trades.

Mr Ahiafor, who pioneered the local intervention known as the MP’s Skills Training Initiative, encouraged aspiring trainees to formally register with the NAP Secretariat to ensure their skills training was properly structured and completed.

He emphasised the importance of engaging the NAP before embarking on informal apprenticeships, noting that the programme provided standardised processes and certified training pathways.

“Our School Feeding Programme is on course, and NAP is also here for us,” he said.

Beneficiaries expressed appreciation to the government for support, describing the intervention as timely and empowering.

The National Apprenticeship Programme, is designed to equip young Ghanaians with industry-relevant, hands-on technical and vocational skills to enable them secure employment or establish their own businesses.

The programme also aims to promote self-employment by providing trainees with tools, equipment, and post-training support.

Additionally, NAP seeks to formalise and standardise traditional apprenticeship systems, transforming informal on-the-job learning into structured, certified, and quality-assured training frameworks.

The event was attended by Johnson Samlafo, the Volta Regional NAP Coordinator, party executives, traditional leaders, and other dignitaries from the programme.
