Tema, Aug. 31, GNA — Mr James Enu, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Tema West, has provided educational items to 300 Junior High School (JHS) graduates in the constituency who are transitioning into Senior High School (SHS).
The items, distributed under his Back-to-School initiative, included metal trunks, plastic buckets, mattresses and exercise books, to support beneficiaries from the Lashibi, Halcrow, Sakumono Estate, Kaiser, Wolei, Railways, Adjei-Kojo, Baatsona, Klagon, Kassadjan and Dzata-Bu electoral areas.
Mr Enu, during the presentation, said the initiative was intended to reduce the financial burden on families associated with purchasing items required for students’ transition into SHS.
He urged the beneficiaries to take their studies seriously, describing education as a critical foundation for achieving their aspirations and building successful careers.
The MP also encouraged the students to remain disciplined and dedicated to their studies to develop the knowledge, skills and values needed to contribute meaningfully to national development.
Mr Enu pledged his continued support for educational initiatives in the constituency to improve access to quality education and enhance teaching and learning.
Dr Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, the First Adviser to the Vice President and Board Chairman of the Ghana Cocoa Board, who also addressed the gathering, called on parents, schools and community stakeholders to collaborate to address indiscipline among students.
He said character formation and discipline began at home and required consistent reinforcement by parents, teachers and community leaders.
He stated that schools alone could not address behavioural challenges, including violence and other forms of indiscipline, without the active involvement of families and communities.
Dr Ofosu-Ampofo urged the students to develop self-discipline, manage their time effectively and respect their parents, teachers and members of the community.
Nana Ekow Obiri Mensah, speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, expressed appreciation to the MP for the support and pledged their commitment to taking their education seriously.
He said the beneficiaries would work hard to become responsible citizens and future leaders who would contribute to the country’s development.
