Kumasi, March 10, GNA – Hajia Nimatu Abdulai Yamboni, the Founder of the Yamboni Foundation for Zongo Women, has stressed the need to include women in leadership positions at all levels of society.
She pointed out that, providing opportunities for women to be heard and lead positions not only promoted inclusiveness in society, but also enhanced women’s participation in decision making and national development.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, as the world marked the International Women’s Day, she said if giving the necessary support and opportunity, women could make positive impact in national development.
Hajia Yamboni, said it was time for society to do away with the traditional and religious notion that women could not hold certain positions in society.
She pointed out that; women had the same capabilities as any other gender and there was the need for equal opportunities to enable women to prove their worth in society.
The Yamboni Foundation for Zongo Women, is a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) that focuses primarily on advocating for women’s empowerment and fostering inclusiveness in leadership roles in Zongo communities.
Through various initiatives and programs, the foundation aims to uplift women in Zongo communities, provide them with the skills, tools and resources necessary to take on leadership roles and contribute meaningfully to society.
Hajia Yamboni reiterated the importance of the International Women’s Day and said it created a platform for raising awareness about the challenges women face globally.
This year’s International Women’s Day 2026 (IWD 2026) is particularly significant, as it is themed “Rights, Justice, Action.”
The theme serves as a powerful call to action, urging women and girls everywhere to unite and work towards dismantling all barriers to equal justice.
These barriers include discriminatory laws, inadequate legal protections, and harmful practices and social norms that continue to erode the rights of women and girls in various communities.
Hajia Yamboni urged women to exhibit total restraint and respect whenever they found themselves in leadership positions, emphasising that, their conduct could pave the way for future generations of women leaders.
She was of the belief that, with more women in leadership, a more equitable and just society could be achieved, where everyone’s rights were honoured and upheld.
