Bechem, (Ahafo), July 30, GNA-The Reverend Father Dr Martin Agyei, the Vice Principal of St Joseph College of Education (CoE) in the Ahafo Region has urged colleges of education in the country to promote discipline and churn out responsible and quality teachers.
He emphasised that teacher-discipline remained the foundation of quality education urging the colleges to strictly enforce their rules and regulations without compromise.
Rev Fr Dr Agyei gave the advice in an interview with the media on the sidelines of the 15th congregation of the St Joseph CoE at Bechem in the Tano South Municipality of the Ahafo Region which saw the graduation of 320 students.
He stressed that teachers remained role models, stressing the college’s dedication to promote and uphold discipline.
Rev. FrDr Agyei called on government officials and traditional authorities to also refrain from interfering when disciplinary actions were being taken against students who violated the college’s regulations.
Earlier, Dr Isaac Godfred Antwi, the Principal of the St Joseph CoE expressed concern about the institution’ growing physical infrastructure deficit, saying that increasing student enrolment has resulted in overcrowding in the classrooms and dormitories.
He said that the problem was affecting effective teaching and learning, worrying that despite persistent appeals, the college continues facing infrastructure challenges.
Dr Antwi appealed for more classroom blocks, dormitories and a bus noting that the only bus for the college was grounded due to mechanical faults making it difficult for the students to undertake educational trips.
Nana Asiwobour Osei Bonsu III, the Paramount Chief of the Bechem Traditional Area, called on the government to address the emerging challenges confronting the college.
He said the college required government assistance to complete some abandoned projects being funded through its Internally Generated Funds.
Nana Bonsu III also called on the government to expedite action for the posting of some of the teachers who had completed the college, and yet to receive their appointments.
