Kumasi, July 29, GNA – The Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) has received 49,450 exercise books from the National Association of Local Authorities of Ghana (NALAG) for distribution to deprived schools in the region.
The books, received on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, are expected to be distributed through the various Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) as part of NALAG’s efforts to promote and enhance educational opportunities in deprived communities across the Ashanti Region.
Nana Yaw Wiredu, Presiding Member of the Asokwa Municipal Assembly and Ashanti Regional Representative of NALAG, who presented the books on behalf of the Association, said NALAG had resolved at its conference to support education in deprived communities nationwide, recognising education as a key pillar for effective local governance.
He said the initiative was a legacy project, with each of the 43 MMDAs in the Ashanti Region expected to receive 1,150 exercise books.
Mr Patrick Kwame Frimpong, Presiding Member of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly and First Vice-President of NALAG, said the initiative would be sustained to achieve the desired impact in society.
He urged the assemblies to ensure that the books reached deprived communities within their jurisdictions to fulfil the objective of the programme.
Mr Andy Ampofo Ghanson, an Assistant Director at the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council, who received the books on behalf of the Council, commended NALAG for the gesture and pledged the Council’s commitment to ensuring that the items reached the targeted schools.
