Accra, July 29, GNA – Ghana Water Ltd (GWL) has apologised to customers across the country for temporary interruptions in water supply following ongoing power supply challenges affecting its water treatment plants and pumping stations.
A press release issued by the Company on Wednesday said the challenges being experienced by the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) on the National Interconnected Transmission System had adversely affected the operations of several GWL facilities nationwide.
It explained that the power outages had rendered most of the Company’s water production systems, which depend on electricity from the national grid, non-operational, making it impossible to produce and distribute potable water to customers in the affected areas.
“The Company is currently unable to produce and distribute potable water to customers in the affected areas,” the statement said.
Management of GWL expressed regret over the inconvenience caused to customers, describing the situation as unfortunate and beyond the Company’s control.
It assured the public that technical teams were on standby and would immediately resume water production and distribution as soon as stable electricity supply was restored.
The Company said it was working closely with the relevant power sector institutions while closely monitoring developments to ensure that normal operations resumed at the earliest possible time.
GWL appealed to customers for patience, understanding and cooperation during the period, assuring them that regular updates would be provided as the situation evolved.
The statement reiterated the Company’s commitment to restoring water supply promptly once electricity supply to its facilities stabilised.
