Wenchi MCE warns communities members against indiscriminate refuse disposal

Wenchi (Bono), Aug 31, GNA – Ms Gloria Opoku Gyamfi, the Wenchi Municipal Chief Executive in the Bono Region, has warned members of the communities against indiscriminate dumping of refuse and plastic waste. 

She said the Assembly was collaborating with stakeholders for the enactment and rigid enforcement of sanitation byelaws in the various communities, warning that culprits of sanitation offences would be seriously punished. 

Ms Gyamfi gave the warning in an interview with the media on the sidelines of a clean-up exercise organised by the assembly at Wenchi. 

She said the exercise was aimed at mitigating potential risk of flooding and controlling the spread of communicable and infectious diseases. 

Mr Marvin Ankomah Boateng, the Wenchi Municipal Environmental Health Analyst, lauded the impressive turnout of the exercise assuring the Assembly’s readiness to collaborate with stakeholders for improved sanitation and waste management. 

He advised the community members to promote environmental cleanliness by keeping their surroundings clean. 

The participants desilted choked gutters, cleared weedy surroundings, cleared refuse heaps and picked plastic waste at the Wenchi markets, lorry stations. 

They comprised chiefs and queens, Assembly and security personnel, faith-based organisations, students, traders and artisans.
