Czech Republic Endorses Morocco’s Autonomy Plan as “Most Feasible” Solution to Sahara Issue

Accra, March 27, GNA – The Czech Republic has reiterated its support for Morocco’s Autonomy Plan, describing it as the “most feasible solution” to the Sahara dispute, according to a Joint Declaration issued on Thursday in Rabat.

The position was announced following a meeting between Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Mr. Nasser Bourita, and the visiting Czech Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Petr Macinka.

The Declaration stated that Prague considers “genuine autonomy under Moroccan sovereignty” as the appropriate framework for resolving the long‑standing regional dispute, and affirmed that the Czech Republic intends to act in line with this position.

As part of this approach, the Czech Ambassador to Morocco is scheduled to visit the Sahara region to facilitate planned missions by Czech entrepreneurs and promote joint economic initiatives.

The Declaration further noted that the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Rabat will extend its consular services to the Sahara region, aligning diplomatic, economic, and consular practice with Prague’s stated position on the Moroccan Sahara.

The Czech Republic also welcomed the adoption of UN Security Council Resolution 2797 (2025), reaffirming that Morocco’s 2007 Autonomy Proposal offers a “serious, credible and realistic basis” for achieving a lasting and mutually acceptable political solution.

Both Foreign Ministers expressed support for the Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary‑General for the Sahara and his ongoing efforts to advance the political process towards a definitive settlement of the dispute.
