Kadjebi (O/R), Feb 11, GNA – Residents of Kadjebi in the Kadjebi District of the Oti Region have decried the incessant power fluctuations and low voltage supply, saying the situation was crippling businesses and damaging household and commercial electrical appliances.
Some residents, who spoke to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), said the unstable power supply had become a daily occurrence and appealed to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to urgently address the challenge.
Mr Redeemer Hoezame, a newscaster with Sankofa FM, a private radio station in the district, told the GNA that frequent power fluctuations had damaged one of the station’s machines.
He said the equipment had to be sent to Accra for repairs, where the technician charged an amount of GH¢5,000.00, a cost he described as unbearable for a community-based media house.
Mr Hoezame noted that the low current situation often made it impossible to operate sensitive broadcasting equipment, thereby disrupting programmes and limiting the station’s ability to serve the public effectively.
He added that several fuel filling stations in the district had resorted to the use of generators to power their operations due to the unreliable electricity supply, a situation that increased operational costs and, in some cases, affected fuel service delivery.
Ms Jemima Nyame, a cold store operator in Kadjebi, shared similar concerns, saying the erratic power supply posed a serious threat to her business.
She explained that the frequent fluctuations risked spoiling frozen food items and damaging freezers, leading to financial losses.
Ms Nyame appealed to ECG to take immediate steps to stabilise the power supply in the area to protect businesses and household appliances.
The residents expressed hope that the concerns raised would attract prompt intervention from the relevant authorities to ensure a stable and reliable electricity supply in the district.
