Accra, Sept. 16, GNA – Huawei has commenced its digital skills training programme aimed at equipping 100,000 Ghanaians with industry-relevant technology skills under the Government’s One Million Coders Programme (OMCP).
The initiative forms part of Huawei’s commitment to the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations (MoCDTI) to support the development of a skilled workforce for Ghana’s digital economy.
A statement issued in Accra said the programme was expected to run over four years and focus on building digital capabilities among Ghanaians to meet the growing demands of the technology-driven economy.
It said the training would cover key technology disciplines, including Cloud Computing, Datacom, 5G, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Security and Access Technologies.
It said the first training session commenced on Monday, August 31, 2026, with a Training of Trainers (ToT) programme focused on Data Communication.
“The ToT programme has been designed to equip selected trainers with the technical knowledge and instructional skills required to train other beneficiaries under the OMCP,” it added.
The statement said the training-of-trainers model was central to the programme’s design and is expected to create a pipeline of certified instructors capable of extending the programme’s reach across the country.
It said the approach would enable the digital skills programme to reach more beneficiaries efficiently while ensuring consistency in the delivery of technical training.
It said participants who successfully complete the training would receive joint certification from Huawei and MoCDTI, recognising their acquired knowledge and technical competencies.
The certified participants will subsequently serve as OMCP trainers, enabling them to transfer their knowledge and expertise to future beneficiaries of the programme.
It said Huawei’s participation in the One Million Coders Programme builds on its existing investment in digital capacity development initiatives in Ghana.
These initiatives include the Women in Tech, ICT Academy and Seeds for the Future programmes, which have provided young people and students with opportunities to acquire technology skills.
The statement said through the programmes, beneficiaries have also gained access to professional development opportunities and exposure to emerging technologies relevant to the digital economy.
It said it remained committed to working with the Government and other stakeholders to strengthen Ghana’s digital capabilities and create opportunities for innovation.
The company said its participation in the OMCP would contribute to building a workforce equipped with relevant skills to support Ghana’s technology-driven development and digital transformation.
