DOPASS appeals for infrastructure to boost enrolment

By Daniel Agbesi Latsu

Dodi-Papase (O/R), Feb. 15, GNA – Mr John Mensah Da-Silveira, Headmaster of Dodi-Papase Senior High Technical School (DOPASS), has appealed to benevolent individuals and organisations to support the school with classroom blocks and dormitories to help increase student enrolment.

He explained that the school, established in 1983, has experienced low enrolment over the years due to inadequate infrastructure.

According to him, the lack of classroom blocks and dormitories has contributed significantly to the low enrolment figures, as Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates who write their exams at the school often compare its facilities with those of Kadjebi-Asato Senior High School (KASEC), Buemman Senior High School (BUSEC), and other institutions before making their choices.

Mr Da-Silveira made the appeal during the grand durbar of the school’s SRC Week celebration at Dodi-Papase in the Kadjebi District of the Oti Region.

He noted that the school was grappling with inadequate classrooms and limited boarding facilities, a situation negatively affecting effective teaching and learning.

The headmaster disclosed that a GETFund project initiated in 2015 and being executed by DEFIAT Development Company Limited has stalled, thereby worsening the infrastructure deficit.

“When completed, the GETFund project will significantly ease our classroom challenges and create a more conducive learning environment for both staff and students,” he said.

Mr Da-Silveira also urged students to remain focused on their academic pursuits, stressing that hard work and discipline are key to success.

“A lazy hunter cannot stalk animals,” he advised, encouraging students to shun laziness and cultivate positive attitudes towards their studies.

He cautioned them against adopting people-pleasing behaviours that could compromise their values and negatively affected their future.

Mr Seth Seyram Deh, Kadjebi District Director of the Ghana Education Service (GES), whose message was delivered by the Directorate’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Richard Kofi Dake, commended the school authorities and students for organising a successful SRC Week celebration.

He advised students to eschew social vices and concentrate on their studies to excel academically and make their parents and the district proud.

Dr Sam Issaka Suraj, Kadjebi District Chief Executive, said the Assembly was aware of the school’s infrastructure deficit and that he, together with Mr Yao Gomado, Member of Parliament (MP) for Akan, and Mr Divine Degblah, an aide to Mr Bola Ahmed Tinubu, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, would help fix the classroom blocks and dormitory problems.

He advised the learners to study hard to pass their examination at ease.

Solidarity messages were delivered by the SRCs of Kadjebi-Asato Senior High School (KASEC), Ahamansu Islamic Senior High School (AHISEC), and Ntruboman Senior High School. The representatives lauded DOPASS for promoting unity and academic excellence.

The celebration, marked by cultural performances and speeches, underscored the need for collective efforts from stakeholders to improve educational infrastructure in the Kadjebi District.
