Wa, Feb.23, GNA – The Wa District Court has sentenced three persons to a fine of 200 penalty units, each, equivalent to GHC2,400.00, for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.
Yahaya Samad, 27, Adams Alhassan, 37 and Yiritang Boosi, 25 admitted that they possessed the arms and ammunition without license.
They were convicted on their own pleas and sentenced accordingly.
The Court, presided over by Mr Simon Kofi Bediako, ordered for the incarceration of the convicts for nine months in case they defaulted.
Earlier, the Upper West Regional Police Command arrested the three persons who openly displayed the arms and ammunition without license.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Mr Francis Yiribaare, the Commander, said a spot search on Samad, Alhassan and Boosi revealed three single- barrelled guns and 23 cartridges, among other items.
