Techiman (Bono East), Feb.1, GNA-Mr Ikililu Amidu, the Bono East Regional Registrar of the Births and Deaths Registry has expressed concern about high population growth, saying the region recorded 44,116 reported births between 2024 and 2025.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Techiman, he said most of the births were males, saying that 22,851 births were recorded in 2024 and 21,265 births in 2025.
Mr Amidu said a total of 1,778 reported deaths were also recorded in the region within the same period explaining that 898 and 880 deaths were recorded in 2024 and in 2025 respectively, with male dominance.
Nonetheless, he expressed concern that many families were not reporting the death of their relations to the departments.
Mr Amidu expressed worry about the inability of the registry to execute its mandate of monitoring and supervision due to several challenges including lack of resources like means of transportation as well as inadequate personnel.
He said the region had only 22 personnel and called for more resources to well position the registry to effectively execute its mandate as required by the Births and Deaths Registry Act (Act 1027), 2020.
Mr Amidu also called on traditional authorities and opinion leaders in the local communities to support education on the need for the people to register births and deaths of their relatives, saying that information was needed for proper planning and development.
He also called on the various district and municipal assemblies to enact byelaws to force families to register their births and deaths, saying it was their responsibility to do so.
