Agona Swedru (C/R), Aug 11, GNA- Mr Charles Obeng Inkoom, former Member of Parliament (MP) for Agona West has launched a campaign to officially declare his intention to contest to be the Central Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The election to the position is to be held on Sunday, November 15, 2026.
Speaking at the launch, Mr Obeng Inkoom, a lawyer, said he was seeking the chairmanship position to work for the Central Regional NDC to massively win the 2028 presidential and parliamentary elections.
He noted that the party needed new hands to make it workable to bring some members who had been sidelined and were disgruntled to actively participate in its activities.
The party, he said, would need to step up in the areas of organisation, strategies, plans and cohesion, and needed fresh energy to revive it to get every party member at the wards, constituencies and regional secretariat on board.
According to the former legislator, the Central Region NDC must be rebranded, rejuvenated and well restructured and further strengthened at base to attract the masses at the grassroots to help better position itself for the next polls.
Mr Obeng Inkoom stressed that the party’s core values of honesty, integrity, probity, and accountability must be rekindled to revive the hopes and aspirations of people in the region.
The former MP gave an assurance that he would revive the administration of the late Mr Ato Austin, the first Central Region Minister appointed by late Jerry John Rawlings to bring coherence, honesty, integrity, probity and accountability to bear.
He expressed optimism that the delegates would vote massively for him to bring fresh ideas, vision and new dream to help transform the NDC m to maintain its current parliamentary seats to enhance good governance.
Mr Obeng Inkoom said if given the nod, his priority would be to mobilise all Cadres, MMDCES, former MPs and others who are peeved and sitting on the bench, unconcerned.
The former MP said the Central Region had been able to produce Vice President, Prof Jane Naana Opoku Agyeman, Finance Minister Dr Ato Forson and many CEOs in President John Mahama’s administration.
Mr Kweku Tsen, former political editor of Daily Graphic newspaper, and former Presidential Staffer during the days of late former Vice President Kwesi Amissah Arthur, referred to recent polls made by Mr Musa Dankwa revealing that the party’s base was going down and needed fresh vision and ideas to rekindle it.
Mr Tsen hoped Mr Obeng Inkoom would be given the nod to apply his rich experience to to the activities of the party.
