Healthy people vital to national development — Aflao Chief

By Michael Pepsin Avorgah

Aflao (V/R), Aug. 11, GNA — Torgbui Adzonugaga Amenya Fiti V, the Paramount Chief of the Aflao Traditional Area, has urged residents to prioritise their health and seek early medical attention to promote a healthy population and national development.

He expressed concern that some people still delay seeking medical care at accredited health facilities and instead resort to churches and traditional remedies when they fall ill.

He made the call during the fifth anniversary celebration of DJ Benner Fun Club in Aflao in the Ketu South Municipality of the Volta Region.

The Paramount Chief said such practices could sometimes worsen health conditions, as some patients only visited health facilities after their situations had become critical.

He encouraged residents to take advantage of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), particularly the free registration and renewal services provided under the scheme.

He noted that the NHIS remained an important intervention aimed at improving access to healthcare but expressed concern that some eligible residents were not fully benefiting from it.

Torgbui Fiti commended the NHIS management for their efforts in renewing expired cards and registering new members, urging them to continue public education to encourage more people to enroll.

He stressed that maintaining good health was a shared responsibility and called on individuals to make regular health checks and early medical consultation a priority.

The Paramount Chief advised residents not to take their health for granted, adding that a healthy population was essential for sustainable growth and development.
