NPP seeking visionary, trustworthy Flagbearer ahead of 2028 – Acting Chairman

Dzodze (V/R), Jan 31, GNA – Mr Mac-Thomson Gbeti, the Acting Constituency Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ketu North Constituency, has said the party is looking for a flagbearer with vision, credibility, and broad appeal to lead it into the 2028 general elections.

He stated that the ideal candidate should be “someone with visionary ideas, good temperament, and a strong connection with Ghanaians, caring, trustworthy, and well-positioned to market the party’s policies and vision for national development.”

Mr Gbeti made these remarks in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) after casting his vote at the ongoing nationwide NPP presidential primary in Dzodze.

He described the atmosphere at the polling centre as peaceful and orderly, reflecting the party’s commitment to its democratic traditions and core values.

He noted that while he remained neutral in his official capacity as chairman, he exercised his right to vote like other delegates.

“As a party, we believe in our ideologies and our tradition of unity,” he said.

“At the end of the day, one candidate will emerge, and we will all rally behind that person to form a strong and united front.”

Mr Gbeti expressed confidence that the NPP would rebound from its recent challenges, attributing the party’s previous electoral setback to internal issues that affected voter turnout among its supporters.

He said he believed party members had learned from the experience and would return in full force ahead of the 2028 polls.

He indicated that the party’s choice of flagbearer would be crucial in presenting a compelling alternative to the opposition, stressing that the NPP’s focus remained on selecting the best candidate to lead the party back to power.

“The process has gone well, and everything is proceeding as expected,” he added.

“Our goal is to emerge from this exercise united and ready to work together for victory in 2028.”

Meanwhile, a total of 311 delegates had cast their votes as of 1000 hours.
