2026 World Cup: Ghana’s spot in Round of 32 officially confirmed

By Simon Asare

Accra, June 27, GNA â€“ The Black Stars of Ghana have officially secured a place in the knockout stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup ahead of their final Group L match against Croatia on Saturday, following results elsewhere in the tournament.

The Black Stars, who have collected four points from their opening two matches, are guaranteed to advance to the Round of 32, marking their first appearance in the World Cup knockout rounds since reaching the quarter-finals in 2010.

A victory over Croatia could see Ghana finish top of Group L if England fail to beat Panama in the group’s other fixture.

Finishing first would allow Ghana to avoid a potential knockout meeting with Portugal, who defeated the Black Stars during the group stage of the previous World Cup.

A second-place finish could set up a clash with Portugal, while ending the group in third could result in a meeting with Colombia.

Elsewhere, Africa is on course for a record World Cup showing, with Morocco, Senegal, Egypt, Cape Verde, Ivory Coast and South Africa also securing places in the Round of 32.

Democratic Republic of Congo and Algeria could join them if results in their remaining group matches go in their favour.
