Ho, Jan. 31, GNA – Dr Samuel Kofi Dzamesi, the former Chief Executive Officer, Bui Power Authority has downplayed the possibility of disappointment if his candidate, former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia loses the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primary.
He emphasised the importance of resilience in the political arena saying, “There’s nothing like disappointment in politics.”
The former Chieftaincy Minister and five-time NPP Parliamentary Candidate for Ketu North Constituency was speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the ongoing nationwide NPP presidential primary at OLA Senior High School, Ho Central Constituency of the Volta Region.
Dr Dzamesi who revealed that he had already cast his vote, said he expected that at the end of the polls, “the right candidate who is my candidate will be the winner,” nevertheless, underscored the need for delegates to remain committed and work towards a common goal and that politics was a game of strategy and resilience.
Four other candidates are contesting the race for the party’s top slot: Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, former Assin Central Member of Parliament (MP); Dr Bryan Acheampong, Abetifi MP; Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, Bosomtwe MP; and Kwabena Agyepong, former NPP General Secretary.
Mr Divine Richard Bosson, the former Municipal Chief Executive of Ho who cast his vote at the venue, said Saturday’s primary was just to “endorse whoever will become our flagbearer for 2028,” saying the party had had a history of holding competitive internal elections, contributing to its reputation as a champion of democracy in the country.
Mr Bright Doe, the NPP Constituency Secretary had described the process as “so far, so good, saying the Electoral Commission’s arrangement was largely what he expected to see.
Miss Emilia Akortia, the Ho Municipal Electoral Officer, presiding over Centre B of the venue told Ghana News Agency (GNA) that she expected that the voting which started exactly 0700hours would come to a close at 1400hours.
She indicated that all was well, with logistics received, four out of the five agents of the candidates present at around 0740hours when GNA checked, and a “more than enough security provided,” adding that it was her hope that the process, expected to have 1,399 delegates participating, would remain peaceful.
Ms Doreen Sintim-Koree, a delegate who had cast her vote lauded the process describing it as smooth, saying, “I came here just few minutes ago but I’m already on my way out of the polling Centre.”
