Kumasi, Jan. 29, GNA – Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, aspiring to be presidential candidate for New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Ghana’s Election 2028, has urged delegates to choose a candidate with proven track of urgency, competence and transformation.
These not done, Ghana risks being left behind in a rapidly changing world, he explained.
Addressing the media in Kumasi ahead of the party’s presidential primary on Saturday, January 31, 2026, Dr Adutwum, also former Education Minister, said the 2028 contest not as politics-as-usual, but as a defining moment for Ghana’s next leap.
He said the next NPP leader must be a 21st-century president with the ideas, experience, and resolve to transform Ghana’s economy and unlock opportunity for every sector.
Dr. Adutwum acknowledged the foundations laid by Ghana’s past leaders—from Kwame Nkrumah, Busia, Limann, Rawlings, Kufuor, Mills, Mahama and Akuffo-Addo, arguing that each played a role in the nation’s progress.
“Now we are where we are,” he said, insisting that the Fourth Industrial Revolution demands a new level of speed and ambition.
“If we don’t move with the speed of light, we will be left behind,” he added.
At the heart of his vision is a practical roadmap to prosperity anchored in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), education, industrialisation,\and technology-driven growth.
Drawing lessons from Singapore and China, countries that transformed their fortunes through export-led industrial policy and aggressive investment in science and engineering, Dr. Adutwum argued that Ghana must act with the same urgency.
He pointed to India’s declared goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047 as further proof that bold national ambition, matched with execution, delivers results.
He said it was time as a country to leapfrog inequality through value addition to natural resources, an export-driven industrial push, and nationwide IT hub development linked to universities.
He cited his track record in education reform, his expertise in finance, and his experience in management and leadership as the tools needed to unite the party, compete credibly, and win in 2028.
“I am here to serve not only the nation, but the party itself,” he emphasised.
He pledged to strengthen the NPP’s grassroots with welfare packages for delegates, ensuring those who work hardest for the party are supported both in and out of government.
Dr. Adutwum urged Ghanaians to speak to the delegates they live with, worship with, and work with to make the case for a leader ready for the demands of a new era.
As NPP delegates prepare to choose a flagbearer, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum is asking them to make a strategic choice – one rooted in competence, urgency, and a clear plan to transform Ghana.
