Koforidua, Jan. 31, GNA – Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has won the New Juaben South Constituency in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential primary, securing 594 of 974 valid votes cast as polls closed at 1400 hours on Saturday.
Voting took place at the Koforidua Secondary Technical Centres A and B, where the New Juaben South Municipal Electoral Commission supervised the process under tight security.
Announcing the certified results, Ms Gifty Nyamekye Manteaw, the Municipal Electoral Commission Officer, said Mr Kennedy Ohene Agyapong polled 268 votes, while Dr Bryan Acheampong obtained 104 votes.
Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum received three votes, and Mr Kwabena Agyei Agyapong secured zero. There were five rejected ballots.
The primary, which ran from 0700 to 1400 hours, forms part of the NPP’s national process to select a presidential candidate for the 2028 general elections.
Voting started promptly at 0700 hours, with Police personnel conducting thorough searches to prevent voters from entering the centres with prohibited items.
Election officials said the process was peaceful and orderly throughout.
Turnout was initially low in the morning but increased significantly after midday. By 1350 hours, 971 delegates had voted across the two centres.
Prominent party figures, including Mr Michael Okyere Baafi, Member of Parliament for New Juaben South, and Mr Seth Kwame Acheampong, former Eastern Regional Minister, visited the polling station to cast their ballots.
At exactly 1400 hours, election officials began sorting ballot papers ahead of the official count.
The order of candidates on the ballot paper was: Mr Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Dr Bryan Acheampong, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, and Mr Kwabena Agyei Agyapong
Election officials confirmed that the poll closed without any major incidents.
