Accra, Jan 31, GNA – Former Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, obtained 760 votes as polls ended at the Madina Techinical Institute of the La Nkwantanang/Madina Constituency during the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primary.
Mr Kennedy Agyepong secured 491 votes, while Mr Bryan Acheampong obtained 157.
Dr Yao Osei Adutwum gained three votes, with Mr Kwabena Agyei Agyapong securing one vote out of the total 1, 412 valid votes cast.
Some 1,595 registered delegates were expected to cast their ballots at two separate polling centres designated for the contest.
Some of Dr Bawumia’s supporters started chanting victory songs at about 1500 hours as results were collated at the polling centre.
Mr Boakye Agyarko, a member of the NPP, who visited the Centre, urged party faithful to rally behind the elected flagbearer, stressing that the party needed a united front ahead of election 2028.
He commended the peaceful conduct of the polls and called on supporters to maintain the decorum seen throughout the voting process.
“I expected the environment to be calm and I didn’t expect our people to misconduct themselves…,” he said.
“Once the results are declared, we should all understand that the collective party has spoken…whatever choice it is, that is what we have to accept,” he said.
“All the people who have line up to vote have the same objective of securing power in 2028. Our strength is in our unity and chohesion.”
“I expect that our sense of purpose and unity would be re-estblished quickly so we can march forward to victory in 2028.”
Delegates who spoke to the Ghana News Agency commended security arrangements and the calm electoral process.
Officers of the Ghana Police Service ensured the processes were conducted smoothly.
