Accra, Jan. 26, GNA – The New Patriotic Party Minority Caucus in Parliament has served notice to the government that it will not entertain any attempts to allegedly extend President John Dramani Mahama’s tenure beyond the constitutionally mandated two terms. Â
“Mr. President, we are aware many of your party members want to push the agenda for a third term. Tell them you are not interested, remind them. It’s not possible,” Mr Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, the Minority Leader, said.
At a press conference in Parliament House on Monday dubbed “Holding the Government Account: A Year of Active Responsible Minority Scrutiny in Ghana’s Ninth Parliament,” Mr Afenyo-Markin emphasised the Caucus’s commitment to holding the government accountable and ensuring that the rule of law was upheld.
The group also expressed concerns over alleged attempts to manipulate the judiciary.

Mr Afenyo-Markin, also the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Effutu, urged judges to remain impartial and uphold their oath of office.
“Our stand is a bold move to preempt any potential power grab by the ruling party,” he said.
