Chiana (U/E), Jan. 04, GNA – The Chiana-Pio, Pe Ditundini Adiali Ayagitam III, the Paramount Chief of the Chiana Traditional Area, has reiterated a 20-year-old appeal to government for a separate Constituency and District.

He said a separate Constituency and District to be carved from the current Chiana-Paga Constituency and Kassena-Nankana West District, would propel development in the area and further solve issues of infrastructure deficits in education, health, roads, and public services.

“With the highest humility, one of the surest ways to address the infrastructure gaps in education, health, roads and access to overall public services to my people is to heed to the plea of my people to give us a separate constituency and a separate District,” he said.

The Chiana-Pio, who is a member of the Council of State, reiterated the appeal at the year’s Fao festival on the theme: “Accelerated education for all: The role of effective partnerships.”

The annual festival offers the sons and daughters of the area the opportunity to thank God for bumper harvest, celebrate their culture, unity, resilience, deep reflection and collective action.

This year’s occasion, chaired by Dr Samuel Kaba Akoriyea, the Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, attracted several dignitaries including Mr Mahama Ayariga, the Majority Leader of Parliament, and Mr Donatus Akamugri Atanga, the Upper East Regional Minister.

Pe Ayagitam III noted that “This appeal to the government, if granted, would not only deliver an age-old appeal to almost every government within the past two decades, but would deliver improved public services to my people.”

The Paramount Chief highlighted persistent challenges faced by the Chiana zone despite repeated promises from successive administrations, and said the request stemmed from government’s own commitments to social development and inclusive governance.

He indicated that the separation would not only accelerate development, but align with principles of geographic equity and devolution of power.

Pe Ayagitam, maintained that his call was “More than justifiable” and that given the people’s needs, fulfilment of the request would represent a concrete step toward equitable resource distribution and local empowerment.
