“Bawumia threatens electoral fortunes of NDC in 2028”—Appiah Mensah

By Dennis Peprah, GNA

Odomase, (Bono), Jan. 14, GNA – Former Vice President Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia threatens the electoral fortunes of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Election 2028, an Elder and Founding Member of the opposition New Patriotic Party, Mr Yaw Dabie Appiah Mensah has said.

Mr Appiah Mensah therefore called on the Council of Elders of the NPP in the various regions and constituencies to remain resolute and continuous to support, market and spotlight the potential of the former Vice President, ahead of the party’s Election 2028 presidential primary slated January 31.

Mr Appiah Mensah, also a member of the Bono Regional Council of Elders, a former Regional Organiser of the NPP in the then Brong-Ahafo Region told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview at Odomase in the Sunyani West constituency that: “With Bawumia our political fortunes are brighter than the NDC the 2028 General Election.”

Alhaji Bawumia is contesting the NPP’s presidential primary with four other hopefuls including Mr  Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, a former Member of Parliament (MP); Mr Kwabena Agyapong, a former General Secretary of the NPP; Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, a former MP and Minister of Education and Dr Bryan Acheampong a former MP.

With a few weeks to go, some political watchers and analysts have described the NPP presidential primary as an index to determine the political fortunes and faith of the NPP, affectionately called the “Great Elephant Party” in Ghana’s 2028 general election.

Mr Appiah Mensah said: “Bawumia is the cornerstone of our electoral victory in 2028 because he remains the only political threat for the NDC now.”

The NPP Elder called on the party delegates to make informed decision by voting for the former Vice President to lead the party to a landslide victory in the next general election.

He advised: “Our presidential primary mustn’t be regarded as a political warfare of fighting ourselves, rather we must prioritise the Election 2028 too as we go to the ballot on January 31 and vote for Bawumia.”

Mr Appiah Mensah noted that the NPP’s Council of Elders were well respected in the party, asking them to use their influences to canvass votes for the former Vice President “who knows better and understands dynamics in government.”

He said: “We must also bear in mind that we are going contesting Election 2028 purposely to turn round the economic fortunes of the nation and thereby improve the socio-economic livelihoods of the ordinary Ghanaian.

“With his solid economic background and as a former Vice President, Bawumia can do more to transform the economy and alleviate the plight of the masses and thereby re-make our great party more attractive and popular in the eyes of the people.”

Mr Appiah Mensah said he was highly optimistic that the delegates would not disappoint but vote for Alhaji Bawumia when they go to the polls on January 31 in the supreme interest of the NPP.
