Ho (V/R), Jan 14, GNA – A delegation from the Coalition of the Tertiary Education Institutions Network (TEIN), representing Colleges of Education in the Volta Region, has paid a courtesy call on the Volta Regional Minister, Mr James Gunu, at the Volta Regional Coordinating Council (VRCC) in Ho.
The visit, led by Mr Raymond Nyator, was to formally introduce the Coalition to the Regional Minister and engage him on critical student welfare and institutional challenges confronting Colleges of Education in the region.
Key concerns raised included inadequate infrastructure, increasing pressure on existing residential and academic facilities, and persistent water supply challenges, which continue to affect teaching, learning, and the overall well-being of students and staff.
The delegation emphasised the need for stronger collaboration between student bodies, educational institutions, and the Regional Coordinating Council to address these challenges and improve the quality of teacher education.
Members of the Coalition expressed their readiness to partner the VRCC in advocacy, community engagement, and development-oriented initiatives aimed at contributing to the socio-economic development of the Volta Region.
Mr Gunu welcomed the delegation and commended TEIN for its constructive engagement and commitment to dialogue on issues affecting tertiary education.
He reaffirmed government’s recognition of education as a critical pillar of national development and assured the students of his support in advancing initiatives geared towards improving learning conditions in the Colleges of Education.
The Regional Minister stressed the importance of sustained collaboration among key stakeholders, including government institutions, educational authorities, and civil society organisations, in addressing infrastructural deficits and student welfare concerns.
He encouraged the delegation to remain united and proactive, noting that responsible and well-organised student leadership plays a vital role in shaping policy discussions and driving positive change.
Mr Gunu assured the delegation of his readiness to work closely with TEIN and other student groups to promote educational development and enhance youth participation in regional development efforts, expressing optimism that such partnerships would yield lasting benefits for the region.
