Tema, Dec. 12, GNA – The Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition (GACC), in partnership with the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), has commemorated this year’s Anti-Corruption Day with sensitisation activities in selected basic schools within the Tema Metropolis, educating young people on the effects of corruption.
Madam Gifty Agyiewaa Badu, Tema Metro Director of the NCCE, said the Anti-Corruption Day commemoration was an annual event observed across all 16 regions, noting that Tema, together with four other districts in the Greater Accra Region, were taking part in this year’s activities.
Madam Badu stated that a total of 87 districts nationwide were marking the day, with a special focus on pupils in basic schools because they represented the next generation and needed to be guided to reject corrupt practices that hinder national development.
She said this at one of the sensitisation programmes at the SOS Hermann Gmeiner School, saying the Tema office selected two schools to participate in the programme, which was on the theme “Uniting the Youth Against Corruption: Shaping Tomorrow’s Integrity.”

She acknowledged the support of various partners and sponsors, including German Cooperation, the European Union, GIZ, the Ministry of Finance, and the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, for helping to sustain public education and advocacy aimed at reducing corruption and preventing embezzlement of public resources.
Madam Badu said the programme aimed to promote transparency, accountability, and integrity among young people, adding that the fight against corruption required collective effort.
She noted that corrupt behaviours often began at an early age, through acts such as cheating, stealing, and nepotism, making it essential to educate children on the long-term effects of corruption on national development and progress.
She urged the pupils to act as agents of change by refusing to cheat, lie, destroy property, or engage in any form of corrupt behaviour.
