Tema, Dec. 12, GNA — The Tema Regional Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) has appealed to road users, particularly commercial drivers, to exercise caution and observe all road traffic regulations, to ensure safety during the Christmas season.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Richard Nyarko, the Tema Regional Commander of the MTTU, urged drivers to adhere to key road regulations, including obeying speed limits, stopping at red lights and stop signs, using indicators, wearing seat belts, and avoiding distracted driving.
He made the appeal during a road safety education engagement with commercial drivers at the five-and-six taxi station in Tema.
The initiative was aimed at creating awareness of safe road practices during and after the Christmas festivities.
DSP Nyarko advised motorists to refrain from consuming alcohol or hard drugs before or while driving, saying such behaviour contributed to irresponsible driving and heightened accident risks.

He further urged road users to be alert and avoid defective driving practices that could lead to preventable accidents, while cautioning drivers against parking indiscriminately on the road, as this could obstruct traffic flow and endanger other users.
DSP Nyarko encouraged drivers to conduct regular maintenance of their vehicles to keep them in good working condition, noting that proper vehicle upkeep formed part of preventive measures against road crashes.
Mr Yaw Opoku, a taxi driver at the station, appealed to the MTTU to collaborate with the Social Welfare Department to remove beggars, especially children, from the streets, explaining that their presence posed challenges and inconvenience to road users.
